The famed dancer and choreographer adds an image of a dancer to his signature.
Self-Caricature signed: "Hermes Pan", 5x3 card. With the same pen, he has drawn a graceful figure of a dancer in motion. Dancer and choreographer Hermes Pan (1910-1990) was invited by Fred Astaire to the set of Flying Down to Rio (1932), beginning a lifelong friendship and collaboration which included 17 of Astaire's movies, and the TV special An Evening with Fred Astaire, which earned Pan an Emmy in 1958. Having danced on Broadway in the late 1920s, he returned there as a choreographer in the 1950s, and worked on many other film musicals. Other collaborations included the Joffrey Ballet, which gave him a special award in 1986. His global friends included Mexican artist Diego Rivera, and the Shah of Iran - who invited him to the 2,500th anniversary celebration of the Persian monarchy in 1971. Pencil notes (unknown hand).
