HILDEGARD HILLEBRECHT
Rare signature from the German soprano on a photograph of her in one
of her most famous roles, Marschallin
Photograph signed (roughly translated): "Heartfelt
devoted/Hildegard Hillebrecht/Marschallin", in blue ink, Color 3½x5.
Hildegard Hillebrecht (b. 1927) was an admired German soprano,
making her debut in 1951 as Lenora in Il trovatore. In 1961, she
joined the Bayerische Staatsoper (Bavarian State Opera), and soon after
began performing widely both internationally and locally, including several
roles performed in San Francisco. Her most famous roles in her career were
the Empress, performed at Covent Garden (1967), and the Marschallin, pictured
here in Copenhagen (1970). However, despite her successful career,
Hillebrecht retired quite early in 1977, giving her final performance in music.
Slightly toned. Corners slightly worn. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Ink
stamps. Fine condition.
