George Sidney. ©1946, Loew's, Inc. In this lighthearted romance, Powell starred as
Christine Evans, the daughter of America's Ambassador to Mexico, and McDowall
co-starred as Stanley Owen, the son of the British Ambassador. Walter Pidgeon, Xavier
Cugat and piano virtuoso José Iturbi (as himself). London-born RODDY McDOWALL'S
(1928-1998) arrival in Hollywood came when he tested for the juvenile lead in Fox's How
Green Was My Valley (1941), winning both the role and a long contract. McDowall's first
adult acting assignment was as Malcolm in Orson Welles' 1948 film version of Macbeth. The
actor spent the better part of the early 1960s playing Octavius in the mammoth
production Cleopatra (Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor), co-starring with
longtime friend Elizabeth Taylor. An accomplished photographer, McDowall was honored by
having his photos of Taylor and other celebrities frequently published in the leading magazines
of the era. McDowall's most frequent assignments between 1968 and 1975 found him in
elaborate simian makeup as Cornelius in the Planet of the Apes theatrical films and TV
series. Possessing a wide-ranging operatic singing voice, JANE POWELL (1928-2021) was a
radio performer from childhood. She took dancing and acting lessons, then made her film
debut at 15 in Song of the Open Road (1944). She is best known for her parts in film
musicals of the early 1950s, including Royal Wedding (1951) and Seven Brides for Seven
Brothers (1954). Lightly creased. Slightly soiled at blank margins. Overall, fine condition.
