Contract multi-signed: “Hollis R. DeLaughter” twice and “HRD” twice. 4 pages. 8½x14. April 25, 1975. Contract from Tree Publishing Company signing all of his music, written and recorded, over to the company. Co-signed: Buddy Killen” twice. HOLLIS R. DELAUGHTER (b. 1939) was more commonly known by his stage name- Red Lane. He learned to play guitar at a young age, moving to Nashville in the early 1960s to work with Justin Tubb. He eventually became front man for Dottie West's band and co-wrote her 1968 hit “Country Girl”. DeLaughter recorded for RCA Records and charted four minor hits, the biggest being “The World Needs A Melody.” He has toured with Merle Haggard and was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1993. BUDDY KILLEN (1932-2006) was a record producer and music publisher. He was a bass player in the Grand Ole Opry before he was hired, in 1953, to listen to new songs in a new business started by Jack Stapp, the manager of the Grand Ole Opry. When Stapp died in 1980, Killen became the sole owner of what would become Tree International. He worked with artists such as Dolly Parton, Dottie West, Diana Trask, Exile, Roger Miller, Joe Tex, Ronnie McDowell and T. G. Sheppard and later with Faith Hill, Trace Adkins, Kenny Chesney, Reba McEntire and Bill Anderson. In 1997 he formed the Killen Music Group (KMG Records), where he represented Christian music groups. Lightly toned. Corners rounded. Paperclip rust marks and staple holes at upper left corners. Horizontal fold across center. Otherwise, fine condition.
