She played "Mrs. Martha Hudson", Sherlock Holmes' housekeeper in 10 Basil Rathbone films, beginning in 1939. As this souvenir book attests, she was a stalwart of the Hollywood Canteen, staffed by Hollywood actresses during World War II to honor and support service men and women with refreshments, entertainment, and proximity to stardom. One of the signers here is Sergeant Carl E. W. Bell, the "Millionth Man" to visit the Canteen, as shown in the attached photo. Also included here is Mary Gordon's identification card for the Hollywood Canteen. A great item commemorating a time when all Americans and friends from Allied nations honored men and women of "the greatest generation" defending the global freedom. Lightly toned at binding. Fine condition.
