General of the United States/July 1935". Homer Stille Cummings (1870-1956) was
FDR's Attorney General from 1933-1939, serving in the post longer than
any other man except William Wirt (1817-1829). A former Mayor of Stamford,
Connecticut (elected in 1900, 1901 and 1904), Cummings had previously
chaired the Democratic National Committee (1919-1920) and served as a
Connecticut State Attorney (1914-1924). After retiring from national
office, he returned to the private practice of law. Lightly soiled at blank
areas. Fine condition.
