Photograph inscribed and signed: "To George/Most Cordially/Hope
Hampton/N.Y. 1968". B/w 7¾10. Actress/singer Hope Hampton
(1897-1982), born Mae Elizabeth Hampton, was a silent screen actress best
known for playing siren and flapper types. Hampton, who debuted in 1920 in
A Modern Salome, made her last silent in 1926. With the advent of sound,
she retired to begin an opera career, debuting with the Philadelphia Opera
Company. Hampton returned to the screen in 1938 in The Road to Reno, a
film directed by her husband, Julian "Jules" Brulatour. This photo was
inscribed to radio/TV journalist and show host George Sanders. Corners lightly
creased. Adhesive residue at top center margin. Otherwise, fine
condition.
