from 1945-1949. During his tenure, Hildreth chaired the National Governors
Conference (1947-1948). A former attorney with a prestigious Boston law
firm, Hildreth had begun his political career in the Maine State House of
Representatives and the Maine State Senate (1943-1944). Unsuccessful
in a 1948 bid for U.S. Senator from Maine, Hildreth founded Community
Broadcasting Service in 1949. The company would establish the state's
first television station, WABI-TV, in 1953. That year, Hildreth began his
service as U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan (1953-1957). Lightly creased.
