Autograph note signed: "To Kayo/From/Howard Dietz". Lead pencil and
blue ink notations on verso in unknown hand. 4¼x2¾. B/w 1½x2¾ printed photo of
Dietz affixed. Dietz (1896-1983) was a versatile newspaper columnist,
publicist and music lyricist. With composer Arthur Schwartz, he wrote
musical comedies in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Dietz's hit songs
included Moanin' Low (1929), Dancin' In the Dark (1931)
and That's Entertainment (1953). He also wrote musical scores for
films, including Key Largo (1948) and The Bandwagon (1953). Need
more? He also designed the MGM lion logo and coined the studio's motto,
"Ars Gratia Artis". Dietz is enshrined in the Songwriters' Hall of Fame.
Lightly toned and bowed. Signature has bled lightly but is legible. Otherwise,
fine condition.
