HOWARD DUFF
His signature in a clipped return address, c/o his studio in Universal City
Autograph Envelope Fragment signed: "Howard Duff c/o/U-1 Studios/Universal City, California", 3½x1¼. Return address clipped from an envelope, postmarked Los Angeles, California, July 21, 1947. Howard Duff (1913-1990), an army radio broadcaster during World War II, played detective Sam Spade on a radio series from 1946 to 1950. His movie career started well in a series of powerful films of the late 1940s: Brute Force, Naked City and All My Sons. He was adept at playing tough guys with a vulnerable spot. Duff met actress Ida Lupino on the set of Woman in Hiding (1950), and they married the following year. The couple had their own TV comedy series, Mr. Adams and Eve (1957-1958), which included an hour-long linked episode with I Love Lucy (the couples on vacation together). Duff starred in his own short-lived series Dante (1960), and co-starred in Felony Squad (1966). He was a frequent TV guest star, including appearances on Bonanza and Twilight Zone. He had recurring roles on the prime time soaps Flamingo Road and Knot's Landing in the 1980s. He was Dustin Hoffman's attorney in Kramer vs Kramer (1979). Irregularly cut edges. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
