On letterhead of the Senate Committee on Public Works. Washington, D.C., 1971
September 28. To W. Ernst Minor, Special Assistant to the Chairman,
Republican National Committee, Washington, D.C. In full: "Thank you
for your letter of September 24. I look forward to the Salute to the President
Dinner in Nashville on November 9th. Sincerely." BAKER (1925-2014)
served as U.S. Senator from Tennessee from 1967-1985, not seeking
reelection. He was Senate Minority Leader (1977-1981), Majority Leader
(1981-1985) and Chief of Staff to President Reagan (1987-1988). He sought
the Republican Presidential nomination in 1980. Married to former Kansas Senator
Nancy Landon Kassebaum, Baker has been U.S. Ambassador to Japan since
2001. He was named for his father, a U.S. Representative from Tennessee
(1951-1964). Ink note (unknown hand) in upper right corner. Fine
condition.
