"Hopalong" Cassady (1934-2019) is a former college and professional football running
back, winning the 1955 Heisman trophy for his incredible college career. Playing for the
Ohio State Buckeyes from 1952 to 1955, Cassady scored 37 touchdowns in 36 games, and
never let a pass be completed on him as a defensive back. He earned his nickname during
his first game as a freshman for Ohio State, noted for hopping across the field just like the
fictional cowboy. Several records were set by Cassady during his time with Ohio State, many
of which were not touched until several years after his departure. The athlete was also a
successful baseball player, leading the team in home runs and stolen bases. After his
successful college days, Cassady was drafted into the NFL, playing for the Detroit Lions,
Cleveland Browns, and Philadelphia Eagles for several years before retiring in 1963. In
1979, Cassady was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Corners slightly worn
and creased. Slightly toned. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Fine condition.
