Respected reporter and anchorman Howard K. Smith (1914-2002) was Chief
European Correspondent for CBS News (1946-1957) and Washington
Correspondent for CBS (1957-1961). In 1960, he moderated the first debate
between presidential candidates John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon. From
1961-1975, Smith was a reporter and anchor at ABC (radio and TV),
retiring from the network in 1979. He was the first major newsman to call for
President Nixon's resignation. Smith, who appeared as himself or a
newscaster in several films, including The Candidate (1972),
Nashville (1975) and Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977),
also published several books, including his autobiography, Events Leading
Up To My Death: The Life of a Twentieth-Century Reporter (1996).
Slightly creased at blank margins. Minor surface creases (not evident head on).

condition.
