HOWARD KEEL and HELEN FERGUSON
The musical comedy star joins the list of major stars hiring Ferguson as his publicist.
Contract signed: "Howard Keel", "Helen Ferguson", 1 page, 8½x11. Beverly Hills, California, 1954 January 12. Howard Keel of Pacific Palisades, California engages Helen Ferguson of Beverly Hills to handle publicity and public relations for him for a period of not less than six months, beginning January 18, 1954. For a monthly payment of $300, Ferguson accepts the obligation to serve Keel by placing stories, articles and photographs in magazines, newspapers and other media. HOWARD KEEL (1919-2004) first appeared on the stage in Broadway's Carousel and in the London production of Oklahoma!. He was later a favorite leading man in the heyday of Hollywood musical comedies. He starred in such hits as Annie Get Your Gun (1950), Showboat (1951), Kiss Me Kate (1953) and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954). His last recurring role was that of Clayton Farlow on the TV series Dallas (1981-1991), but he made TV guest appearances into the 1990s. HELEN FERGUSON (1901-1977), a WAMPAS Baby Star of 1922, starred in eleven films of the silent era, including Hungry Hearts (1922). In 1933, she quit acting entirely to become a publicity agent, a very successful one. Her clients included Henry Fonda, Barbara Stanwyck, Robert Taylor and Loretta Young. She earned a reputation as one of Hollywood's best "suppress agents," skilled at squelching unflattering stories. Lightly toned. Fine condition.
