HOWARD LUCAS
Off-Broadway actor writes to John Willis, editor of Theatre World, to send him his biography and photograph
Typed letter signed: "Howard Lucas" in black ink. 1 page, 7¼x10½. May 27, 1983. New York City, New York. In full: "Dear Mr. Willis: I am enclosing a biography for inclusion in the next edition of THEATRE WORLD (Volume 39). All the productions listed were at CSC Repertory Theatre: the last five from the 1982-83 season. I've also enclosed a photograph [not included]. Thank you. Sincerely". Actor Howard Lucas has starred in many Off-Broadway shows, and was a regular at the Classic Stage Company's Repertory Theatre. He made his debut in The Cavern (1979), and also appeared in The Merchant of Venice (1980), Faust: Part One and Two (1982), and Danton's Death (1983). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Corners rounded. Light surface creases. Toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
