Typed letter signed: "Howard W. Cannon", 1 page, 8x10½. On letterhead from United States Senate, Washington, D.C. 20510. 21 March 1979. In full: "Mr. Paul J Friscat/1114 Sunford SE/North Canton, Ohio 44720/Dear Mr Friscat: Thank you for your nice note and your request for a favorite quotation. I think I like the one of Lyndon Johnson's which seems especially appropriate now - as it did when he said it: 'Come let's reason together'. Sincerely" Howard W. Cannon (1912-2002) was a decorated major general and US senator. Cannon, born in St. George, Utah on January 6, 1912, graduated from Dixie State College and then subsequently graduated from the University of Arizona's law school. His time in the military earned him many awards, including the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, 3 Air Medals, and a Purple Heart. After retiring from the military, Cannon was elected as city attorney for Las Vegas, Nevada and eventually went on to be their senator from 1959 to 1983. Mailing creases.
