Autograph note signed: "Howell" as U.S. Senator, 1p, 6¼x8½. On Senate letterhead. Washington, D.C., no date. To "Pat" [Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan]. In full: "Enclosed is the card that Len Garment sent to you from the Tenn-Tom celebration in Mobile." Affixed at bottom is a business card of the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce (4½x1¾) with inscribed signature: "To Pat Moynihan/with affectionate regards/Mr. Lenard Garment/From Tenn-Tom Country". Irregular edges. Democrat HOWELL HEFLIN (1921-2005) represented Alabama in the U.S. Senate from 1979-1997. He chaired the Senate's Ethics Committee and served on the Judiciary Committee. LEONARD GARMENT (1924-2013) was White House counsel and President Nixon's personal lawyer. He has written two books investigating the identity of the famous Watergate source "Deep Throat" and has been named as a suspect himself. DIRECTLY FROM THE SALE OF THE ESTATE OF DANIEL PATRICK MOYNIHAN (1927-2003) who represented New York in the U.S. Senate from 1977-2001. Transparent tape attaching Garment signature covers lower half of Howell signature. Ink and pencil notes (unknown hand) in upper right. Ink stamp numbering in left margin. Tape attaching card to bottom of letter touches Howell signature.
