HOYT AXTON
Black and white publicity photograph of Hoyt Axton leaning back in a chair with his hands up with his guitar on his lap.
Photograph signed: "Joy to/You-/Hoyt". B/w, 10x8 overall, image 8½x6 (one surface). Publicity photo on his own record label, Jeremiah Records, captioned in lower margin. Axton (1938-1999) came naturally to songwriting. His mother Mae Burton Axton wrote Elvis Presley's hit, "Heartbreak Hotel." Hoyt's greatest successes were in songwriting, for musicians as diverse as The Kingston Trio ("Greenback Dollar", 1962), Three Dog Night ("Joy to the World", 1971) and Ringo Starr ("The No No Song", 1975). His own hit songs, vocals with guitar, hit the country charts, including "Boney Fingers" (1974) and "A Rusty Old Halo" (1979). He had many appearances on television and supporting roles in films, usually as a "good ole boy" (The Black Stallion, 1979; Gremlins, 1984). Fine condition.
