HOYT AXTON and MAE "MOTHER MAE" BOREN AXTON
Songwriting mother and son sign this photograph from the set of Hee Haw in blue ink
Printed Photograph Signed in Ink: "Hoyt/Axton" and "Mae", in blue ink, 8x5¼. Hoyt Axton (1938-1999) came naturally to songwriting. His greatest successes were for musicians as diverse as The Kingston Trio ("Greenback Dollar", 1962), Three Dog Night ("Joy to the World", 1971) and Ringo Starr ("The No No Song", 1975). His own hit songs, vocals with guitar, hit the country charts, including "Boney Fingers" (1974) and "A Rusty Old Halo" (1979). He had many appearances on television and supporting roles in films, usually as a "good ole boy" (The Black Stallion, 1979; Gremlins, 1984).  Mae Boren Axton (1914-1997) was a song writer and producer, whose nicknames include the daunting "Queen Mother of Nashville" and the "First Lady of Rock 'n Roll". She is pictured here with her son, Hoyt Axton, on the set of Hee Haw, a TV variety show that featured country music and both celebrated and poked fun at certain aspects of Southern culture. Enjoying a long career in both the film and music industries, Mother Mae produced hits such as "Heartbreak Hotel" and "Skid Row", recorded by Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis respectively. Top and bottom edge slightly ragged. Otherwise, fine condition.
