Autograph sentiment signed: "With best wishes,/Hugh David", 3½x5½. Small newspaper photo affixed above signature. Hugh David (1925-1987) was a Welsh-born actor and film director who worked in the entertainment industry for 30 years. Making his acting debut in the 1956 film Reach For the Sky, David took on many television roles throughout the 1950's and 1960's, including The Invisible Armies (1958), The Buccaneers (1956) and Knight Errant Limited (1960-1961). He made his directorial debut in 1962 with Compact, followed by Swizzlewick (1964), The Man in the Iron Mask (1968) and Doctor Who (1966-1968) for which he was offered the lead role, but turned down. David also directed Wives and Daughters (1971), Cranford (1972) and Sophia and Constance (1988) which premiered in the year following his death. Toned. Adhesive residue on verso.
