HUGH HEFNER
Color photograph of the man behind "Playboy", wearing a sweater and collared shirt
Inscribed photograph signed: "To Doug/Best wishes/Hugh Hefner". Color, 8x10. Hugh Marston Hefner introduced his first "Playboy" magazine in December 1953 with $8000. The magazine sold over 50,000 copies, enough to finance another issue. By the end of the decade, over a million copies of "Playboy" were sold monthly. When Playboy Enterprises went public in 1971, the magazine's circulation was seven million monthly, and the firm's holdings included 23 Playboy Clubs, resorts, hotels and casinos worldwide, book publishing, a modeling agency, a limousine service, a record label and a television and film company. Although his daughter, Christie Hefner was named President of Playboy Enterprises in 1982 and has served as Chairman and CEO of Playboy Enterprises since 1988, "Hef" remains the magazine's Editor in Chief and plays a key role in company business, especially in the area of cable television and video production. Fine condition.
