HUGHIE GREEN and CLIVE DUNN
Photograph of the two British entertainers presenting their dinner plates, both signing and inscribing the photo to a fan
Inscribed photograph signed: "Best Wishes/Richard/Hughie Green", "Hello Richard/from/Clive Dunn", B/w 10x8. British actor CLIVE DUNN (1920-2012) portrayed Corporal Jones on BBC TV's Dad's Army, dealing with British Home Guards, too old for regular military service, during WWII. Following a career as a child actor, Hughie Green (1920-1997) first gained mainstream popularity with the ITV quiz show Double Your Money (1955), hosting the series from 1955 to 1968. The successful hosting gig helped pave the way for Green to host several other series, including Opportunity Knocks (1956), Moon Movies (1977), and Val Parnell's Sunday Night at the London Palladium (1957). However, Green's right wing political beliefs began to conflict with his shows, especially the hit show Opportunity Knocks. After using the show several times as a soapbox to discuss his political views, the broadcasting network for the show cancelled the series, despite its popularity and high ratings. Green still hosted several shows for a number of years, though he was unable to achieve his prior success, and eventually strayed away from the media. Corners slightly worn. Light surface scratches (not seen head on). Slightly soiled. Ink notes (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
