HUGO RIGNOLD, JASMINE BLIGH
Signed sentiment of famed British conductor Hugo Rignold on an album leaf. Also signed by British presenter Jasmine Bligh--one of BBC's first ever television hostesses. Extremely rare!
Autograph sentiment signed: "All best of luck/Hugo H. Rignold", and on verso, "Yours/very sincerely/Jasmine Bligh", in black ink, 6x4 album leaf. British conductor and violinist HUGO RIGNOLD (1905-1976) got his start playing violin in jazz and dance bands in the 1920s and 1930s (his recordings include Oh Lady, Be Good and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, both in 1926, with the Jack Hylton Orchestra), but is best known as the Musical Director of the Royal Ballet (1957-1960) and conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. He made the jump from jazz to classical music in 1944, when he got a chance to conduct the Palestine Orchestra, now the Israel Philharmonic. His other posts include staff conductor at the Covent Garden (1947-1948) and the Liverpool Philharmonic (now the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic) in the 1940s and 1950s. JASMINE BLIGH (1913-1991) was one of three women to be the first ever BBC Television presenters in the 1930s. A struggling showgirl from London, she was selected out of 1,122 applicants by BBC to host the television program in 1935. She remained a hostess for BBC following its hiatus during World War II, and was given the hosting job for BBC's Television for Deaf Children in the 1950s. She continued hosting for BBC until the 1970s when she retired. Toned. Corners rounded. Small tears in left edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
