HUME CRONYN. TLS: "Hume.", 1p, 5¾x7¾. New York, N.Y., 1960 November 1. On sheet imprinted with his name to Miss Radie Harris, New York, N.Y. Begins: "Radie dear". In full: "I did try to reach you on Tuesday morning and again on Wednesday following your party. Busy, busy, busy. I've been out of town since. It was a lovely party. Thank you for asking me. Sybil Burton and I closed the Eden Roc. I don't know what the right birthday present will be, but I'm determined to find you one which will arrive before Christmas. I'll see Jess and Dick Burton this week-end in Boston. Love". In 1960, Cronyn starred in one feature film, Sunrise at Campobello, and he made guest appearances on television in Play of the Week (in a production of Juno and the Paycock) and The Barbara Stanwyck Show. Canadian actor HUME CRONYN (1911-2003), who entered films in 1943, was nominated for an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor the following year for The Seventh Cross. He worked frequently with Alfred Hitchcock, adapting plays and novels for the screen and acting in both Hitchcock films and TV episodes. Married to Oscar-winning actress Jessica Tandy from 1942 until her death in 1994, Cronyn often co-starred with her. The couple was especially popular as married senior citizens in such films as Cocoon (1985), as well as the stage and TV versions of The Gin Game. Cronyn remained active after Jessica's death, being mistaken for Santa Claus in Off Season (2001). RADIE HARRIS (1904-2001) was a long-time entertainment journalist for the "Hollywood Reporter". She wrote her "Broadway Ballyhoo" column from 1940 to the 1990s. Harris, who was also the talent coordinator for the 1943 film, Stage Door Canteen, received a special citation of merit from the Publicists Guild of America in 1982.
