HUNTZ HALL - INSCRIBED PICTURE POSTCARD SIGNED - HFSID 25367
Price: $280.00
HUNTZ HALL. Postcard photograph signed and inscribed: "To George/My
Friend/always/Huntz/Hall". B/w, 3¼x5¼. Printed on verso: "Monogram Pictures
Corporation". Huntz Hall (1919-1999) appeared in a total of 81 East Side Kids/Bowery Boys
features and serials, more than any other actor. In this postcard, he's pictured in character. Hall
always played the same type of role, first called Pig, then Glimpy and, finally, Sach. He
had attended New York's famous Professional Children's School and was a boy soprano with
the Madison Square Quintette. As a child, he was a radio actor, playing in such shows as Lady
Next Door, Billy and Betty, and Bobby Benson. From 1935-1937, Hall played Dippy in the
Broadway play Dead End, recreating his role in the 1937 film, Dead End, starring
Humphrey Bogart and a group of youngsters who became known as the Dead End
Kids. Stage roles Huntz Hall played in the 1980's and 1990's across the country included Willie
Clark in The Sunshine Boys, Felix in The Odd Couple and Milt Manville in the play, Luv. 1-inch
crease at top margin, does not affect signature. The pen Hall used scratched the surface of the
postcard resulting in white areas to which the ink did not adhere. Slightly creased and worn at
corners.
