"Marjorie Barkley McClure", "Edmund Vance Cooke", "Lou Untermeyer", "Edwin Meade
Robinson", "Whiting Williams", "Buffalo Child Long Lance", "Robert J. Casey", "Clara E.
Laughlin", "Elmer Davis", "Mc Cready Huston", "Meredith Nicholson", "W.B. Seabrook",
"Padraic Colum", "Henry Turner Bailey", "Honore Willsie Morrow", "Delia J. Akeley",
"Dorothy Aldis", "James Abbott", "Maud Lindsay", "James A. Braden", "Johnny Gruelle",
"John Norton Johnson", "Amelia Earhart", "Ellery Walter", "G P Putnam", and four
unidentified signatures. AMELIA EARHART (1897-1937) signed this listing in 1928, along
with her husband - publisher George Palmer Putnam (1887-1950) - and over two dozen
other authors. That year, Earhart's first book, 20 Hrs. 40 Min., was published by G.P. Putnam's
Sons. The meeting with Putnam in preparation for the book, which told of her early days as a
pilot and her experience as the first female passenger to fly the Atlantic (June 1928), prompted
their marriage. Earhart also worked for "Cosmopolitan" as the aviation editor. That magazine's
publishing division released Long Lance in August 1928, a story about an American Indian
youth written by BUFFALO CHILD LONG LANCE (1890-1932). Although proclaimed to
be autobiographical, it was proven several years later that he was not of Indian heritage and his
real name was Sylvester Long. ELMER DAVIS (1890-1958), whose signature also appears,
published Giant Killer in 1928. Davis, who had been a reporter and editorial writer for "The
New York Times", later became a journalist with CBS News. He left CBS at the invitation of
President Franklin D. Roosevelt to head the Office of War Information (1942-1945). LOUIS
UNTERMEYER (1885-1977) published Burning Bush in 1928 and later worked as the
poetry editor of "The American Mercury". JOHNNY GRUELLE (1880-1938) created
Raggedy Ann and Andy. Earhart's aviation milestones include her solo trans-Atlantic
crossing on May 20-21, 1932 - the fifth anniversary of Charles Lindbergh's flight -
which also set a record of less than 15 hours. She made the first solo non-stop,
trans-continental flight (August 24, 1932) and was the first woman to solo from Honolulu,
Hawaii to Oakland, California (January 11-12, 1935). In July 1937, Earhart and her
co-pilot/navigator Fred Noonan, disappeared in their Lockheed Electra in the Pacific
while attempting an around-the-world flight. Creased with folds. Horizontal folds touch five
signatures. Pinhead-size holes and ink smudges in lower right blank area. Frame slightly chipped
at back corners. Otherwise, fine condition. Framed to an overall size of 32½x22.
