Letter written to a James Cobb making travel arrangements and plans for breakfast
Autograph Letter signed: “I.R. Ingersoll” in iron gall ink, 2p (front and verso of single sheet),
4½x7. Place difficult to decipher, 1853 August 10. Addressed at footer to “James Robb Esq”.
Written to “My Dear Sir” In full: “I am much gratified in having procured the enclosed card for
you. The arrangements are that we proceed by a Special Train from the Waterloo Station at 6:30:
A.M. thence to Gofsport where all persons going in the “Vivia” will be required to Embark at the
Clarence yard before 10 O'Clock tomorrow (Thursday) morning./ Please to join us at the arrival
gate of the Waterloo Station in the Waterloo road. Or we shall be very glad if you can come and
breakfast with us at ½ past 5 and avoid all accident./ Very truly yours/ I.R. Ingersoll”. Signer
merits further research. Several vertical and horizontal folds. Toned. Paper loss and heavy wear
along top edge. Moisture damage along top edge. Edges worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
