IGGY POP. Photograph inscribed and signed: "hey Rosita,/you got a cool/name,/best to you/always/love, [smiling face]/Iggy Pop". B/w, 8x10 overall, image 7x7 (one surface). Virgin Records publicity photograph by Michael Levine. Name imprinted at lower margin. Iggy Pop's debut album for Virgin Records, Brick By Brick (1990), was his first U.S. gold certified album and featured his Top 20 hit, "Candy", a duet with B-52's Kate Pierson. Iggy Pop, born James Newell Osterberg in 1947, is considered "the Godfather of Punk" for the sound he developed both with his band, The Stooges, and as a solo artist. The musician/singer and his band signed with Elektra Records in 1968 and released two albums, The Stooges (1969) and Funhouse (1970), before being dropped by the label in 1971 due to public disinterest and the band's increasing dependence on drugs. After being sought out by David Bowie, a fan of the group's sound, Pop and his group recorded Raw Power for Columbia before permanently disbanding in 1974. Pop continued to tour with Bowie, who played keyboards for him, but later severed his connections and released a number of solo albums, including New Values (1979) and wrote an autobiography, I Need More (1982). After resurfacing in 1986 with the hit, "Real Wild Child", from the Bowie-produced album, Blah Blah Blah, Pop saw his popularity soar again, as bands such as Nirvana, Mudhoney and Soundgarden credited Pop and the Stooges with influencing their sound and groups such as Slayer, Duran Duran, Guns N' Roses and R.E.M. began covering Pop/Stooges songs. Pop, who had acted in several films and TV series while releasing solo albums, reunited the Stooges in 2003 for his Skull Ring album and a well-received tour. Slightly creased at upper corners, minor scratch at upper blank edge. Minor surface creases (not evident head on). Light black mark at lower right margin. Fine condition.
