IGNACY JAN PADEREWSKI
The Polish composer and politician signs his name in pencil on this sheet with his photo attached
Signature: "I J Paderewski" in pencil, irregularly cut 5x3½ sheet, affixed to 5¼x3¾ blue page. Magazine photo of Paderewski (b/w, 2½x3¼) affixed to left of signature. Polish pianist and composer Ignacy Paderewski (1860-1941) made his professional debut in Vienna in 1887 and quickly established himself as an interpreter of Schumann, Chopin, Liszt and Beethoven. He wrote the piano piece Legende Op. 16 in 1888, and his other works include Minuet in G and the opera, Manru. The virtuoso pianist was also a philanthropist and Polish patriot. Paderewski interrupted his concert career in 1919 to serve as Prime Minister and Foreign Minister and in 1940 to serve as President of the Polish Parliament in exile in Paris. Slightly soiled. Photo lightly rippled from mounting adhesive on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
