IGOR SIKORSKY. Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Wayne
Davis/With best Wishes of I. Sikorsky/July 1, 1970". B/w, 8x10 overall,
image 7½x7½ (one surface). Russian-born Igor Ivan Sikorsky (1889-1972), a
pioneer in the advancement of the helicopter and naval aircraft, constructed and
flew the first multi-motored airplane in 1913. He also built the first
amphibian American Clipper, which pioneered transoceanic commercial
flights in 1931. In 1939, Sikorsky developed the first practical American
helicopter. He is enshrined in the National Aviation Hall of Fame. Lightly
soiled at some writing. Minor surface creases (not evident head on). Defects
from original negative have reproduced at right background. Sikorsky's mailing
label affixed to verso, which has ink and pencil notes (unknown hand). Fine
condition.
