IGOR STRAVINSKY
He signs each of two autograph notes in the margin of a typed 1965 letter signed by his theatrical lawyer, Arnold Weissberger, concerning re-publication of a Picasso poster from a page of Stravinsky's autobiography.
Autograph Notes signed: "I Str", 1 page, 8½x11. Written on a TLS on letterhead of Weissberger and Frosch, Councilor's at Law, New York, N.Y., 1965 January 25, signed"Arnold". Weissberger was consulting Stravinsky's on whether the reproduction of a Picasso painting shown in Stravinsky's autobiography could be reproduced in an article about the composer in a publication called Knowledge. Stravinsky's handwritten reply: "Picasso's stuff at [1 word illegible] was published everywhere and nothing protected. Why opt to continue." Responding to Weissberger's own unsigned Autograph Note enclosing a review of Stravinsky's opera Rakes' Progress [item not included here], Stravinsky has added a 2nd ANS in red ink: "Thank you very much dear Arnold." Russian-born composer IGOR STRAVINSKY (1882-1971) was perhaps the greatest classical composer of the 20th century. Stravinsky, who lived in France following WWI before coming to the U.S. in 1939, wrote operas, including Firebird (1910), Petrushka (1911) and The Rite of Spring (1913), neoclassical works and such religious-inspired pieces as Symphony of Psalms (1930). Stravinsky became a naturalized American citizen in 1949. He also collaborated on several books, including his autobiography Chronicles of My Life in 1936. L. ARNOLD WEISSBERGER (1907-1981) was a theatrical lawyer who represented many prominent artists and entertainers. Normal mailing folds. Staple holes at left edge 3" from top corner. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
