IKE and TINA TURNER
Two contracts, each signed by one of these two major figures in the history of rock and R&B.
Comprises: (1) Partly Printed DS: "Ike Turner", 3p, 8½x11. Hollywood, California, 1969 February 7. Loan Receipt Agreement between ABC and Ike & Tina Turner for a 16mm kinescope print of their December 7, 1968 appearance on Hollywood Palace. File holes at upper margin. Staple holes at upper left corner. Lightly creased. (2) Partly Printed DS: "Tina Turner", 1p, 8½x12. Inglewood, California, 1975 April 11. Contract for Ike & Tina Turner's Revue to perform a one hour concert on May 4, 1975, at the Masonic Temple in Davenport, Iowa, for $7,000 plus 60% of the gross receipts over $12,500. Only signed by Tina Turner as "Leader" of the group of nine musicians. Lightly soiled. Lightly creased. File holes at upper margin. Horizontal fold not at signature. The Ike & Tina Turner Revue was formed in 1959, a year after they were married. Guitarist and bandleader Ike and his wife, lead vocalist Tina, put on one of the most exciting live shows in R&B. Tina walked out of the group and the marriage in 1974, alleging abusive behavior by Ike. Called the most dynamic female soul singer in the history of music and the Queen of Rock and Roll, Tina Turner won six Grammy Awards including Record of the Year and Pop Female Vocal in 1984 for "What's Love Got to Do With It" which was also the title of the 1993 movie based on her book, I, Tina. While the public seems to have largely accepted Tina's version of events, it should be noted that Ike Turner, who died December 12, 2007, always strongly disputed her accounts of their stormy marriage. Ike Turner himself was a major force in the development of rock and roll: his 1951 release, "Rocket 88" is considered by many the first rock 'n' roll hit. His 2007 album Risin' with the Blues won the W.C. Handy Blues Award as Comeback Album of the Year. Two items.
