IMOGENE COCA
The comedian signs the inside of a match book
Match Book signed: "Imogene Coca", 4½x1½ open match book
cover. Ink note on verso (unknown hand): "3-12-68." Comic actress Coca
(1908-2001) was on stage from 1925, in films from 1937, often in skits parodying
everything from ballet to heavy drama. She is most famous, however, as Sid
Caesar's comic partner on TV's Your Show of Shows (1950-1954), winning an
Emmy in 1952. Her talents were underutilized in subsequent TV series. Film
highlights included a dying aunt in National Lampoon's Vacation (1983).
She was nominated for a Tony as Best Featured Actress in a Musical for On
the Twentieth Century (1978). Vertical fold touches the last "e" in
Imogene. Lightly soiled, staple holes at left side. No show through from ink
notes on verso. Overall, fine condition.
