Document signed: "Ingemar Johansson" on verso, 8½x14. New York, New York, 1959
September 25, 1959. Johansson hires the William Morris Agency as his exclusive agent in
activities over which the American Guild of Variety Artists has jurisdiction (not prize fights)
for a term of three years. Johansson has also handwritten his address: "Södra Vägen 8/Göteborg,
Sweden". In 1952, Swedish boxer Ingemar Johansson (1932-2009) competed in the Olympic
Games in Helsinki, Finland. Thirty years later, Johansson, who had been disqualified for what
judges deemed a tepid performance, was presented with the Silver medal by the International
Olympic Committee. In 1959, Johansson became the first Swede and last European until
Lennox Lewis in 1998 to win the World Heavyweight Championship, defeating Floyd
Patterson with a KO in the third round. Johansson, who fought 28 bouts during his
professional career, had a record of 26 wins (17 by KO, 8 decisions and one win by foul) and
two losses (both by KOs), and remains a hero in his native country. File holes at top. Slightly
soiled. ½-inch tear at right edge. Horizontal fold crosses signature. Otherwise, fine condition.
