INGRID BJONER
Signed b/w Alexander Bender bust photo of soprano Ingrid Bjoner on a German post card
Picture post card signed "Ingrid Bjoner" in red ink. Blue ink notations in unknown hand on verso. B/w, 3½x5¼ overall, 3½x4¼ image, one surface. Photo by Alexander Bender. Post card by Franz Josef Rüdel, Filmpostkartenverlag. According to the notations on verso, Bjoner signed this post card at Covent Garden in 1967. Bjoner (1927-2006), also known as "Die Bjoner", was one of Norway's premiere sopranos. Bjoner was known especially for her interpretations of Strauss and Wagner; her performance of Isolde from Wagner's Tristan und Isolde at the Bayreuth Festival reportedly earned her three-quarters of an hour of applause. Originally trained as a pharmacist in Oslo, she pursued singing as a hobby, making her first professional appearance on Norwegian radio in 1956 and on the stage in 1957. Bjoner was a regular at the Vienna State Opera, Teatro alla Scala, the Metropolitan Opera and the Royal Opera at Covent Garden, among others, and was a popular performer in German opera houses. She retired in 1990 and taught at the Norwegian Academy of Music and Royal Danish Academy of Music. Lightly toned and bowed. Light impressions on image (not visible head on). Adhesive residue on verso (no show-through). Otherwise in fine condition.
