The Dutch Clergyman and the Gospel singer and composer sign their names for a collector

DeWITT TALMAGE (1832-1902) preached in Brooklyn (1869-1894) and Washington, D.C. (1894-1899). Known as a brilliant preacher, Talmage edited the "Christian Herald" from 1890-1902. His sermons were published in 3,000 newspapers. He was also a signer of the Blackstone Memorial (1891) urging President Benjamin Harrison to convene an international conference to establish a Jewish homeland in Palestine. IRA D. SANKEY (1840-1908) was a gospel singer and composer known as "the Sweet Singer of Methodism." A Union veteran of the Civil War, he often traveled to revival meetings in the company of famed evangelist Dwight Moody. Sankey published a compilation of his religious hymns, Sacred Songs and Solos, which is still in use. More than seven decades after his death, he was enshrined in the Gospel Music Hall of Fame (1979). Lightly soiled and toned. Left edge ragged from previous binding. Lower edge cut slightly irregular. Otherwise, fine condition.
