starred with actress Irene Dunne (1898-1990) in The Awful Truth (1937)
and My Favorite Wife (1940), called her the finest comedienne he had ever
worked with. Dunne, whose first screwball comedy was Theodora Goes
Wild (1936), received Best Actress Academy Award nominations for that
film and for Cimarron (1930-1931), The Awful Truth (1937), Love
Affair (1939) and I Remember Mama (1948). Lightly soiled at blank
margins. Ink note (unknown hand) of date at lower left blank margin. 6½-inch
vertical fold at top half of photograph affects "J" of inscription and "u" of
Dunne. Mounting remnants and pencil note (unknown hand) on verso (no show
through). Otherwise, fine condition.
