IRENE KOHLER The talented pianist pens her name on this slip of paper Signature: "Irene Kohler/ 7-2-43", in black ink, 3x5. 2x2¾ newspaper photo and 3¼x7½ clipping advertising a concert on February 7th (no year) featuring Kohler with the London Philharmonic Orchestra included. Both pieces lightly toned. Edges irregularly cut. Otherwise, fine condition. Irene Kohler (1909-1996) was an English pianist. When she was only 16 years old, Kohler was awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Royal College of Music where she studied under Arthur Benjamin. Kohler then continued her studies with Eduard Steuermann in Vienna. In 1934, she made her London debut at a Promenade Concert. Kohler went on to perform with a great many internationally renowned ensembles and teach at various institutions. Her technique was heavily praised by critics, and she was especially adept at interpreting the works of romantic composers such as Tchaikovsky, Brahms, and Rachmaninoff. Interestingly, she was the only woman to participate in the 1936 BBC piano test. Lightly toned. Stained just below center at right edge. Corners rounded. Faintly creased near upper left edge. Otherwise, fine condition. Three items.
