Captioned on verso: "Iron Eyes Cody, Indian Actor and spokesman for Keep America Beautiful, Inc. John Steele painted him here with the children of the world for whom Mr. Cody has special concern." 12-cent stamp affixed, postmarked Los Angeles, California. Cody, who appeared in a number of films with Roy Rogers, including Young Bill Hickock, Young Buffalo Bill, In Old Cheyenne, Under Nevada Skies, North of the Great Divide, Son of Paleface and Alias Jesse James, was best known as the Indian who sheds a tear for a blighted American environment in the "Keep America Beautiful" television ads that ran from 1971 into the 1980s.
