the Chicago Sun-Times, wishing the recipient a speedy recovery and asking
him to say hello to Eddie Jaffee.

blue ink in unknown hand. 1 page, 5x6, on Kupcinet's personalized stationery
from the Chicago Sun-Times. In full: "Dear Rush, Thanks for your
gracious note and my apologies for being so tardy in inquiring about your
health. I trust you are convalescing nicely, as Eddie Jaffee would say. If you
run into the little dynamo, Jaffee, be sure to say hello. And may our paths
cross shortly. sincerely, irving kupcinet". Kupcinet (1912-2003, born
Irving Kupcinet in North Lawndale, Chicago, Illinois) was drafted out of college
to the Philadelphia Eagles, but a shoulder injury ended his career and shunted
him into sports writing. He was hired by the Chicago Daily Times (now the
Chicago Sun-Times) in 1935 and given his own gossip column in 1943.
This column, renamed Kup's Column in 1948, was a fixture in the paper
until his death in 2003. He gained a wider audience when he launched his own
talk show in 1952 and replaced Jack Paar on The Tonight Show in 1957.
Another incarnation of his show, The Irv Kupcinet Show, ran from 1962 to
1971. Lightly toned and soiled. Pen skipped when signing signature. Red wax
remnant from pad at top edge. Folded once and unfolded. Otherwise in fine
condition.
