Large signature of the American author and humorist.
Signature: "Sincerely Yours/Irvin S. Cobb.", 3½x5¼. Magazine
photograph, b/w, 2x2¾ overall, affixed at upper margin. Dated in pencil
(unknown hand) on verso: "1925". American author, humorist and columnist Irvin
Shrewsbury Cobb (1876-1944) wrote over 60 books, including Paths of
Glory (1915), an account of his experiences covering WWI, and 300 short
stories. Cobb, who began his journalistic career with the "Paducah Daily
News" and the "Louisville Evening Post", moved to New York in 1904. There, he
worked for the "Evening Sun" and "New York World" and covered WWI for the
"Saturday Evening Post". Cobb's works provided the basis for a number of
feature films, and Cobb himself appeared in ten films between 1932
and 1938. He also hosted the 1935 Academy Awards. Lightly stained,
touching signature and writing (all completely legible). Mounting remnant on
verso (no show through). Overall, fine condition.
