The American author responds to a letter from a man at Stetson
University in Florida.
Typed Letter signed: "Irvin S. Cobb", 1 page, 5½x8½. New
York City, New York, 1928 March 10. On his personal letterhead addressed to
Phillip Cummings, Stetson University, Deland, Florida. In full: "Dear
Sir: Please let me thank you for your kind letter. I am glad that you like some
of my writings and that you took the trouble to tell me so. Yours
sincerely," American author, humorist and columnist Irvin Shrewsbury Cobb
(1876-1944) wrote over 60 books, including Fields of Glory
(1915), an account of his experiences covering WWI, and 300 short
stories. Cobb, who began his journalistic career with the "Paducah Daily
News" and the "Louisville Evening Post", moved to New York in 1904. There, he
worked for the "Evening Sun" and "New York World" and covered WWI for the
"Saturday Evening Post". His popular works included Old Judge Priest
(1915), a collection of short stories inspired by is native Kentucky. Cobb's
works provided the basis for a number of (mostly silent) films, and Cobb
himself appeared in ten films between 1932 and 1938. He hosted the
1935 Academy Awards. Normal mailing folds. Adhesive residue on verso (heavy

condition.
