IRVIN S. COBB
Signed letter from the author in response for an autograph, dated 1926
Typed letter signed: "Yours Sincerely/Irvin S. Cobb", in black ink, 5½x8½. April 16, 1926. New York City, New York. In full: "Dear Madam: I take pleasure in sending my autograph for your collection. Here it is". American author, humorist and columnist Irvin S. Cobb (1876-1944) wrote over 60 books, including Fields of Glory (1915), an account of his experiences covering WWI, and 300 short stories. Cobb, who began his journalistic career with the "Paducah Daily News" and the "Louisville Evening Post", moved to New York in 1904. There, he worked for the Evening Sun and New York World and covered WWI for the Saturday Evening Post. His popular works included Old Judge Priest (1915), a collection of short stories inspired by is native Kentucky. Cobb's works provided the basis for a number of (mostly silent) films, and Cobb himself appeared in ten films between 1932 and 1938. He hosted the 1935 Academy Awards. Normal mailing folds. Light surface creases. Corners lightly worn and creased. Adhesive residue on verso (slight show through). Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
