ISA MIRANDA
Publicity photo from Paramount during her brief stay in Hollywood, signed in
person for collector Saul Goodman
Photograph signed: "Isa Miranda". B/w, 8x10.Isa Miranda
(1905-1982, born Ines Isabella Sampietro in Milan) was an Italian actress
with 80 TV shows and movies to her credit. Trained at Milan Academy, she played
her first starring role in La Signora di tutti in 1934. She quickly
became a popular leading lady throughout Europe - so popular, in fact,
that her reputation survived Mussolini's pet project and box office bomb
Scipio Africanus (1937). She was just about the only star produced by
the fascist cinema. After a brief stint in Hollywood (Hotel Imperial,
Adventure in Diamonds), she returned to making films and TV in Europe,
which she made until 1978. Miranda won Best Actress honors at the 1949 Cannes
Film Festival for her work in The Walls of Malapaga. Fans of the British
TV series The Avengers may recognize her in her uncharacteristic role as
campy villainess Damyta Syn in the 1967 episode Epic. Saul Goodman
(1919-2003), a New York business man by day, pursued his love of film and
theatre in the evening, making friends with many celebrities. While other
autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman presented stars with snazzy
photographs, a rarity then, to sign in fountain pen. Light brushing to
signature. Scattered light creases. Otherwise, fine condition.
