Isaac C. Parker signs an autograph document.
Autograph Document Signed: "I.C. Parker/Judge of Circuit Court/In Andrew County Misr", 1p, 7½x8. Andrew County, Missouri, 1870 July 25. Judge Parker orders that a note be permitted to be withdrawn "in the Circuit Court for Andrew County by leaving in the office of the Clerk of said court a certified copy of same." Parker resigned shortly after writing this order and became a candidate for Congress. He was a Republican Congressman from Missouri (1871-1875) and lost the race for U.S. Senator in 1874 to Democrat Francis Marion Cockrell. He declined the appointment as Chief Justice of Utah Territory but accepted one as Judge of the U.S. District Court for Western Arkansas, serving from 1875 until his death in 1896. Called the "Hanging Judge," Parker appointed 200 marshals and saw 65 of them slain. He passed 162 death sentences during his tenure at Fort Smith, Arkansas, earning his nickname. Lightly stained at blank bottom edge. Fine condition.
