3x5 card signed by the Italian bass opera singer in New York City in 1980
Signature: "Italo Tajo/N.Y.C/1980", 5x3 index card. Italo Tajo (1915-1993) was an Italian bass opera singer. He started out singing in a church choir and decided to pursue singing as a career, despite the opposition from his father, who wanted Tajo to be a doctor. He debuted as Fafner in Wagner's Das Rheingold at the Teatro Regio in Turin, Italy. The conductor, Fritz Busch, was so impressed with Tajo that he invited the young singer to the Glyndebourne Festival that year as an understudy and chorus member. He served in Rome during World War II; his light duties gave him time for performances at the Rome Opera, including a performance as the Doctor in the first Italian production of Alban Berg's Wozzeck. Tajo debuted in America at the Chicago Opera in 1946 as Ramfis in Verdi's Aida and at the New York Metropolitan Opera as Basilio, and later Figaro, in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro. Fine condition.
