Sepia, 7¼x9¼. Lithuanian-born Ivan Lebedeff (1895-1953) was a czarist
military officer who fled Russia after the revolution. He acted in
European films before arriving in Hollywood for a starring role in D. W.
Griffith's The Sorrows of Satan (1926). He was often cast as a
European cad or villain. The year he inscribed this photo, Lebedeff appeared
in two silent films: Let 'er Go Gallegher and The Veiled Woman. He
appeared in character roles until shortly before his death, his last appearance
coming in The War of the World (1953). Chipped at corners and lower left
corner missing. Adequate contrast. Otherwise, fine condition.
