J. FLINT HANNER
The former Fresno State University track coach, and hall of fame inductee, signs this black and white photograph of himself shown standing in a suit and tie
Photograph Signed: "Best Wishes/J. Flint Hanner/Mar. 21 - 1949", B/w 8x10. American athlete and coach John Flint Hanner (1898-1973) spent his college years at Stanford University where he competed in multiple athletic events including the discus, shot put, and javelin throw (the latter of the three earning him three national championships). Hanner set many records with his javelin throws - including the national record when he threw the javelin a reported 197'1" . It was clear that Hanner had a love for sports and, in 1925, was hired onto Fresno State University as a track coach, a role he filled for thirty-five years. As the coach, he led the track team to win twenty-seven championships. During his time at the school, Hanner also worked as a football coach, a basketball coach, and an assistant athletic director. Because of his great skill as an athlete and coach, he was inducted into three halls of fame: the Northern California Track and Field Hall of Fame, the Helms Athletic Hall of Fame, and the U.S. Track and Field Coaches Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, in 1973, John Flint Hanner passed away at age seventy-five. Lightly bowed. Corners lightly creased. Minor unknown residue on verso (no show-through). Otherwise, fine condition.
