Calling card signed: “J. H. Saville” in black ink. 4x2¼. J.H Saville served in the Confederate Army's Eleventh Infantry, Bethel Regiment based in North Carolina. Following the end of the war, Saville became chief clerk to the United States Secretary of Treasury, William Adams Richardson. President Ulysses S. Grant selected Richardson to office in 1873 following the resignation of George S. Boutwell who went on to become a Massachusetts Senator. Toned. Edges irregular. Creased throughout. Lightly soiled. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso. Adhesive residue on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
