1933-1951”. James Hardin Peterson (1894-1978) was a U.S. Congressman who served in
the House of Representative for over 15 years. In 1914, Peterson graduated from the
University of Florida at Gainesville's College of Law and joined the bar. Soon after, he began
working as a law clerk in United States General Land Office. He served as city attorney for
several different Florida cities throughout the 1920s and 1930s. During World War I,
Peterson was a chief yeoman in the United States Navy. In 1932, Peterson was elected as a
Democrat to the United States House of Representatives from Florida's 1st congressional
district. He occupied the office for a total of eight Congresses from 1933 to 1951, serving
as chairman of the Committee on Public Lands during three. After his career in politics
ended he resumed practicing law. He also became special counsel for the Territorial
Government of Guam as well as chairman of the Commission on Federal Application of Laws
to Guam. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
